Modern graffiti

Modern graffiti is much different to the first styles of graffiti. in the early daysa of the 1900's up until the 60's graffiti had more of an art approach. Graffiti back then was more detailed pictures and paintings. In the 60's in Philidelphia and NYC new styles started to appear. The writing of a "tag".

The most famous artist that boosted this new style into the public view was "TAKI 183". HE was a foot messenger and took the subway alot. So as he rode he sprayed his tag everywhere to keep himself occupied! This got great media attention and all of a sudden many more "tags" were cropping up all over NYC and spreading all around America!

Modern graffiti these days has been taken to a new level. Artists try to challenge themselves to paint the most creative tag. Or to tag the hardest most unusual place! For example to spray the side of a train. "Cornbread" who was also one the first modern graffiti artists was famius for tagging a elephant in the Philidelphia Zoo and the side of the Jackson 5's private jet!
That is the origins of modern graffiti and how it came about!
